GoodByeCityLife Success
Story This is Laura's sleeper site that she talks about in the
report.
This information is based on
Alexa data. At the present time (September 16, 2004) I have over 200
emails in my inbox waiting to be added to GoodByeCityLife's email
distribution list. I wasn't prepared for the rush and when it came, (and I
realized I couldn't keep up to the extra traffic, extra subscribers and
extra orders), I literally stopped what I was doing (promoting through my
RSS Feed, etc.) to work with Joe to prepare The Stampede Secret for you.
Now I have to catch up, but
not without showing you the difference an RSS Feed has made to my sleeper
site! The lesson to learn here: Have everything in place for the
success you're going to receive on your site. Get your auto-responders
in place, make sure your site greets all your new visitors with products
to buy or at the least affiliate links!
To ensure that you don't
assume that in the past few months people have suddenly become interested
in country life or home schooling (or for that matter making pickles), I
have included my two largest visitor competitors' Alexa data as well. My
site is Canadian, the other two are US-based and UK-based. There's no
better way for you to see how valuable feeds are than to do this type of
comparison. I could show you stats, my email database, whatever - but it
doesn't drive the point home any better than a direct comparison. Further,
there is no way I could doctor Alexa stats to my advantage - I'll give you
the direct links to verify the information for all three sites at the
bottom of the page.
These websites are comparable
on quality, content, and their tenure online. Yet while their stats and
ranks are going down, mine climb. What's changed? Nothing but the RSS
Feed. If you are a true skeptic, you can surf around Alexa and take their
time machine back to an earlier version of GoodByeCityLife. You can see
how long the site looked this same way (no redesign), had the same number
of links coming in (link numbers have not changed over the last two
years!), and sold the same products (there have been Commission Junction
and Amazon links on the site for years). Nothing changed but the RSS Feed
inclusion.
Note: Alexa data changes
again on October 1, 2004. Check back for further updates shortly after
that date.
Traffic Rank for comparison between Jan-Mar quarter and Apr-Jun
quarter.
A Few Words
about This Data
If all you
do is skim the data tables below you'll see that GoodByeCityLife's data is
all green up arrows, the others all red down arrows. Where do you think
their readers are going? Further it is quite obvious that links going in
aren't always the greatest advantage! What's the greatest advantage? An
RSS Feed!
Alexa Ranking Info:
Traffic Rank
Based on the number of users who visit as well as the number of pages viewed.
Three-month change shows the difference between the rank based on traffic during the first quarter of the year and the rank based on traffic during the second quarter
of the year.
Reach Rank
The reach rank is a ranking of all sites based solely on their reach
(number of readers per million).
Three-month change shows the difference between a site's current reach and reach rank
compared to values from three months ago.
Page Views Rank
