It was early 2004 that I first discovered how
to bring a website's traffic back to life by using a simple little text
file called an RSS Feed.
In my first experiments with RSS Feeds I
increased visitor traffic by 629% per quarter - documented by Alexa's site
and traffic ranking tools. That's when I stopped working for web
development clients and started working for myself - and I've never looked
back!
Shortly after my experiments I began to
uncover the true secret of using web logs (blogs) to gain traffic. Not
just any traffic, but targeted, pre-disposed, and in many cases ready to
buy, website visitors!
Launch of The Stampede Secret
Immediately I wrote a report containing the
step-by-step strategy and techniques that I'd employed and with the help
of Dr. Joe Vitale we launched The Stampede Secret in less than 10 days of
initial contact and brought our easy traffic secret to the masses.
The report, and accompanying member's area, was a smashing success and
many of our customers discovered how easy and profitable it was to
fine-tune and focus their websites for success.
Of course authoring and supporting this
product had it's own set of challenges. Our customers came from all levels
of understanding regarding search engine optimization, targeting their
market segment, converting their traffic to buyers or subscribers, and/or
offering valuable content once their traffic arrived. Most had never even
read about keyword research!
Who Benefited Most from RSS Feeds and Blogs
Stampede Secret customers fell into three
camps: (1) Savvy webmasters who already had the basics of website
ownership down, employed the strategies and found immediate success (often
within a few weeks), (2) website owners who required a lot of hand-holding
and extra training on keyword research and the benefits of targeted
traffic before they could get started (very time intensive for myself but
in the end rewarding for the website owner), and (3) site owners who were
lazy (didn't want the extra work of defining their markets or keywords),
careless (didn't care what type of traffic they got as long as they got
some traffic), or only owned one mini-site offering absolutely nothing of
value to the visitor once they arrived except an over-priced report.
Needless to say camp 3 did not reap the benefits of The Stampede Secret.
After over two years of supporting and
enjoying the customers of The Stampede Secret I made a bold move and
removed the report and the Member's Area from the market. Internet traffic
and website management has changed and in order to change with the times,
to ensure my own success, I needed to move on.
Onto Web 2.0!
This is a very exciting time to be working
online. Web 2.0, which truly blossomed with the widespread use of RSS
Feeds and Blogs, is now upon us. The way we surf, live, and work online
proves it. Research supports it.
Web 2.0 is here and if you want to succeed
online now you've got to get your game on. Don't worry though, you won't
be going it alone.
I'm still working online (just celebrated 10
years of it!) and as long as I continue to do so I'll be sharing my
techniques, strategies and resources for Web 2.0 traffic and site
promotion. I'm even building a few Web 2.0 sites myself so I'll walk you
through site setup, promotion, maintenance and management in the future. It's a fun and exciting time to
be online!

Learning to Drive
Traffic in the Web 2.0 World
I'm still learning and testing the best ways
to drive targeted traffic to your websites. Before I write (and decide to
take on support again) the next Stampede Secret I've been buying,
reviewing, and testing the techniques of a number of other products on Web
2.0 traffic - click there to see my reviews and subscribe to
my mailing list for updates. You'll find my latest ramblings via blog on Web
2.0 here.
I'd love to see you there and hear your
thoughts, successes and trials through commenting!
