Feed Promotion Ideas:

Add other website's RSS Feeds to your site Why would you want to do this?
a) offer value to your readers.
b) have fresh content on your site, causing the search engines to believe that you are updating regularly (a key consideration in your search engine rank for Google, Yahoo and MSN).

Why wouldn't you want to do this?
We haven't found that integrating another source's feed into a website does much for gaining loyal readers and subscribers. (And we feel it's all about getting them to the site and building your list - so many marketers will tell you the $ is in the list). You best gameplan remains to maintain and update your feed on a regular basis, but if you can't or don't want to do that you can still enjoy higher search engine rankings by incorporating other feeds into your website's pages.

How to do this?
You can add other RSS Feeds to your website using JavaScript code, but currently only one Search Engine reads JavaScript content. If you are considering using other's feeds to your site for the purpose of higher search engine rank (without JavaScript code), we suggest RSS Equalizer (ad free, the software costs $97 - instant download and ease of use).

NEW Service - and it's free! (But we can't say how long it will stay free - donations are accepted on the site...) It doesn't get any easier than this...This new service handles all the scripting/coding for you, you simply supply the feed url, select the format, update times and choose whether you want the javascript version or the php version. Click the button and an instant bit of code pops into the box to add to your html file. Send the javascript or php file to your webmaster (or do it yourself if you have web design skills).

If you have a great webmaster or know how to do this yourself, you can buy and install CARP* (currently under $15) on your server, add a few lines of code to your webpage for similar results to RSS Equalizer.

If you don't care about a higher search engine ranking (who doesn't care about a higher search engine ranking?), here's some cheap or free-to-use javascript enabled products and services - FeedRoll, Pull RSS (download and install script) and FeedSplitter (written in php).

*CARP is a very powerful application and the diverse uses for this type of feed programming are cropping up everywhere! Just released was a method to dynamically generate Amazon content into a web page (updating once every 12 hours). However, CARP usage isn't for everyone - you need to have some programming knowledge and/or ability to get it working and tweaked for your own use.

Allow other sites to display your RSS Feed content... Why would you want to do this?
  • You appear as a 'recommended resource' (branding and promotion).
  • You'll gain more traffic from the click-through of other sites.
  • As long as your feed isn't flowing via javascript, you'll gain high positioning in the search engines with all the extra in-bound links.

Why wouldn't you want to do this?

  • Increased bandwidth if your feed is a real hot topic and your host has limited your bandwidth.

Why would another webmaster want to add your feed to their site?

  • More relevant content for their readers.

Javascript solutions offered for their ease of use - this does absolutely nothing for Search Engine rank, but it does interest visitors. If you have visitors that aren't yet reading RSS Feeds, this is an attractive way to show them your feed content.

WebPasties - Add professional looking components to your website. You can try this service for one month free (thereafter a great deal at just $20 for 6 months of service)! Subscription to the service offers easy javascript creation of web polls, scrolling news feeds, slideshows, visit trackers, and messenger buttons (really cool).

Alternative Service: Automated javascript creation (offering your feed for other sites to incorporate onto their pages). One free month - $7.95/month thereafter. Five (5) feed maximum. Usage and clickthrough stats - hosted on their site. www.FeedRollPro.com

Adding Quick Subscribe Buttons to your Website Do you want people to easily add your feed to their reader of choice? Add these buttons to your RSS explanation page for one click subscribing. People see the button on your site and click it. The button takes them to their subscription area and your feed is added to their lists of feeds to read.

You just have to set up the buttons. Quick Links for setup: bloglines (login then click the "Get A Subscribe to Bloglines Button"), yahoo, mywireservice (as soon as you submit a feed a button creation page is shown), - more coming soon!

Commissions by Feed Usage

Amazon and GoogleAds  Commissions Add your Amazon ID to your FeedBurner account for automated commission links.

If you use Google Ads on the pages linked within your feed, people have to click through to your site first, then to the Google Ad.

Note: Please understand that I am not suggesting you use your feeds for such low payout commissions as these two (nor are we saying that receiving commissions from either of these services are inferior), there are just so many other more profitable ways to make money from feeds right now, i.e. selling your own products, clickbank commissions, etc.

RSSads.com Ads in RSS? Soon you will be able to advertise in RSS feeds (the same way you advertise in ezines). This service is not yet developed, but launch is expected shortly.
Adsense in RSS Soon you'll be able to showcase Google's adsense program in your RSS Feed. This has been in BETA forever, but some pre-approved publishers are already in the program. If you're already an Adsense publisher, apply for RSS Adsense in your Google control panel.
