Submit Your Feed Here

One of the key points to success using Blogs and RSS Feeds is to have your feed listed on as many of these directories as possible.

WAIT! Don't use this form unless you have a MAC! We've obtained resale rights to a really smooth piece of software that submits your RSS Feed to over 50 directories in about 10 minutes flat. Learn more here.

Below is a list of services and search engines that maintain blog/rss lists. They are ordered (somewhat) by Google's PR ranking system at the time of the last update. In most cases the link will take you directly to the "List your Blog or Feed Page." Each link will open in a new window for you.

We check and update this area regularly (April 21), if you find any errors or broken links, please let us know by email.
A NEW designation in the listings below indicates that we have added this listing here within the past 2 weeks - it does not mean that the directory is new.

1. You will be submitting your blog/rss feed to google via dmoz.

This submission is the one that will consume most of your time. Don't be put off by the annoyance of this one, continue on to the other submissions, they are much easier as we go along.

The link below will take you to the Weblogs directory of dmoz. Click through the sub-categories on that page (to match the content of your website). When you can click no more, click the Submit a Site text link at the bottom of the page. If you end up on a generic "How to Submit Your Site to dmoz" page, you are in a category that currently does not have an editor. If you end up on a page that has a bright yellow box on the top 1/3 of the page, you're in luck! This is where you'll make your submission!

Directly below the spot where you add your url, ensure that you click the radio button that says "RSS."

2. This one's a bit tedious, but it is completely legitimate and one of the most worthwhile inclusions you can make! This is the time sensitive Big Secret you read about in the report - This still works (December 3).

Don't cop out and decide there are too many steps here - this one step could mean a huge surge of traffic to your site! Devote the time - do it right now before all the benefits of Yahoo inclusion and high profile run out! All the other sites are relatively easy to submit to, but this one is an invaluable resource.

First, you have to have a yahoo identity.

Follow the directions below if you don't have a My Yahoo Identity (2a), or do have a My Yahoo Identity (2b).

Once your identity is in place and yahoo knows to include RSS Feeds, you will be set to alert Yahoo to your website.
On December 3rd testing Yahoo came around in less than one hour.
On April 21 testing Yahoo came around in 46 minutes.

2a. If you don't have a yahoo identity, get one. It's free. Go to my.yahoo.com and register. After registration you will be asked some questions, and given a my.yahoo.com page. You don't ever have to use it again.

The first thing you'll see on your page after registration is complete is this in the top 1/2 of the screen:

Click that Add Content button. And skip down to 2c.

2b.
If you do have a yahoo identity, you simply need to ensure that the RSS module is part of your my.yahoo page.

There seem to be a multitude of ways to do this dependant on your past settings with yahoo and yahoo's move out of BETA on RSS Feeds.

I suggest you first go to http://my.yahoo.com and see if, after you sign in, you see a button that looks like this:

If you do see the Add Content button, click it then head down to 2c.

If you do not see the Add Content button, the simplest way to get RSS feeds into your My Yahoo account is to sign into your yahoo mail account. On your mail page you'll see two options at the top of the page: Sign Out or My Account. Click My Account.

In the right hand pane, you'll see this:

Click My Yahoo.

On the next page, click the Choose Content link.

And on that page:

Select the RSS Headlines (BETA) box, and then the Finished button. Now just click here: http://my.yahoo.com. You should now see the button. Click it, then move onto 2c below.

2c.
Okay! You're now on your myyahoo page, and you want to add your own feed.

We're going to tell Yahoo all about your website now. You'll see this on the page:

Click the text that says Add RSS by URL. On the next page you'll see this box:

Type your feed url into that box and click Add. You'll see the title of your feed, part or all of your first feed item, and the ADD button.

Click the ADD button.

On the next screen Yahoo has some issues. I don't need to go into it here, but they currently have a band aid solution in place which is a gold colored box that covers their previous bad-programming. You can see that there is another button under that box which was confusing people.

If you don't see the gold box they have solved the problem and all you need to do is click the button that doesn't say REMOVE. It used to say "No, Thanks". Hopefully it will say "Yes! I want this feed!" when they have solved the problem.

If you do see the gold box below, simply click the Go to My Yahoo link.

You'll then be back on your page with your feed showing. It's probably way down at the bottom of the page, but it will alert Yahoo to visit your site.

2d.

Finally, check your stats in a few hours for a pleasant surprise!

Edit the tag below and place it between the <head> tags of your home page (or get your webmaster to do it).

By saying Edit I mean to change the text that says sitename to the name of your website and feedfilename.xml to the actual url of your new feed - use the full http://www.sitename.com/feedname.xml format.

Here is the code:
<! -- RSS Autodiscovery -- >
<link rel="alternate" type="application/rss+xml" title="RSS" href="http://www.sitename.com/feedname.xml">

And...one last but important step...within the next hour or two, add a new item to your feed. Why? Yahoo often comes back and checks to see how often your feed is updated (updates count for relevancy and ranking). On the day of addition Yahoo's spider comes back quite regularly, but if you don't update often, the frequency of visits diminishes.

FeedBurner can seem quite confusing, but is definitely worthwhile. When you take the next step after registration, to 'burn' your feed, you'll be presented with an entire page of options. Now if you have time and if you want to promote the 'burned' version of your feed (from their site) instead of your own, then check out the options.
